Riders on the Storm es una canción del grupo estadounidense The Doors, que fue sacado como single en su álbum L.A. Woman, de 1971.Fue grabada en el estudio Doors Workshop en diciembre de 1970 con la ayuda de Bruce Botnick, el ingeniero que durante mucho tiempo fue el co-producción de sesiones de grabación de estos cuatro chicos.
Morrison grabó la voz principal y, a continuación, susurró sobre la letra para crear el efecto inquietante que da un tono misterioso a la canciòn, que ademas seria la ultima grabacion que haria Jim Morrison con The Doors.
La letra está basada en Billy Cook que asesinó a toda una familia en Illinois y que fue condenado a la camara de gas en 1952 ( en especial en la frase There's a killer on the road...).
Según una leyenda urbana la canción tenia relaciòn con un trágico accidente causado por un vehículo que conducia a alta velocidad y que encontraba la muerte al chocar con la tribu de indios Navajos (la tribu mas numerosa de E.E.U.U).
Otra version sobre el tema se refiere a que la letra tuvo inspiración en un poema surrealista francés llamado Chevaliers de l'Ouragan ("Jinetes del huracán") escrito por André Breton.Como un dato tecnico,esos sonidos de truenos y lluvia que se escucchan al principio de la canciòn fueron incorporados con efectos del teclado Fender de Ray Manzarek.
En fin, una cancion misteriosa, con un sonido unico que dejo a los Doors como una banda escencial en el rock mundial.
